Should you build Yangyang: Xuanling?
Yangyang: Xuanling is a Havoc Heavy Attack damage dealer whose strongest attacks depend on Havoc Bane. Build her with teammates who can apply Havoc Bane often, because her own damage amplification reaches 36% when the target has six stacks.
What to know before spending pulls
Her team matters before extra copies or a featured weapon. She can apply Havoc Bane herself, but teammates who add more stacks help her reach Unbroken Vow's maximum sooner and build Feathered Oath for her Heavy Attacks. Her current guide lists Chisa in both status-focused teams and also provides a lower-cost Mortefi and Verina team.
Do you need the signature weapon?
Azure Oath is her featured weapon. At level 90 it has 588 ATK and 24.3% Crit Rate. After the wielder inflicts Havoc Bane, it grants 36% Heavy Attack DMG Amplification and 12% Heavy Attack DEF ignore for 8 seconds, which matches Yangyang's main damage type. If you already own Emerald of Genesis, it has the same ATK and Crit Rate and adds 12.8% Energy Regen plus up to 12% ATK after two Resonance Skill casts. Azure Oath matches her kit more directly, but Emerald of Genesis covers useful stats without requiring another limited weapon.
Another character copy or the weapon?
S1 means her first Resonance Chain upgrade. It adds a Heavy Attack follow-up whenever she casts either Sword Stance Flow skill, briefly Stagnates nearby enemies, and gives interruption immunity to her main Azure and Havoc in Bloom attacks. Azure Oath instead strengthens Heavy Attack damage after she applies Havoc Bane. S1 adds control and protection as well as damage, while the weapon is a direct damage package. If interruptions are causing failed attack strings, S1 solves a problem the weapon does not; if her strings already land reliably, keep a strong sword and do not assume an extra copy is required.
Advice for your account
Use Emerald of Genesis if you already own it. Its Energy Regen helps with her 118% target, and its ATK effect activates through the stance skills already used in her rotation. Build a Havoc Bane team before considering a weapon pull.
S1 has practical value because it prevents interruption during her main Azure Heavy Attack and Havoc in Bloom sequence. That benefit is separate from a spreadsheet damage increase and can matter more when enemy pressure repeatedly breaks the combo.
Pairing them gives Yangyang another source of Havoc Bane. This helps Unbroken Vow, Feathered Oath, and the 20% Havoc amplification from Yangyang's Outro all use the same team mechanic.

Rotation and troubleshooting
Easy rotation
Bring Yangyang in with Intro Skill to gain one Azure Plume and apply one Havoc Bane. Cast Resonance Liberation to raise Havoc Bane on every target it hits to the maximum and gain another Azure Plume. With two Azure Plumes, hold Normal Attack for the Heavy Attack available in your current stance. Continue normal attacks to spend Melody, then use Sword Stance Flow when Melody is empty; it restores 100 Melody and one Azure Plume. Repeat the stance cycle, use the next full-Plume Heavy Attack, and leave through Outro when Concerto Energy is full.
Opening vs. repeat cycles
The opener uses Liberation to set Havoc Bane to its maximum immediately. On later cycles, Yangyang and her teammates may already be maintaining stacks, so Liberation can be timed for damage and another Azure Plume instead of being the only way to start her window. Her Bated Breath and Streaming Storm Crit DMG effects each have a 25-second trigger limit, so a later Heavy Attack may not receive the same bonus as the opener.
Why this skill priority
Forte Circuit and Resonance Liberation lead because they contain her stance loop, Melody and Azure Plume resources, Havoc Bane interactions, and her main Heavy Attacks. Resonance Skill follows because Sword Stance Switch and Sword Stance Flow connect the two stances and restore the resources that keep the loop moving.
Required buffs and assumptions
The rotation assumes the target can receive Havoc Bane. Unbroken Vow scales from its current stacks, and Feathered Oath gains stacks when nearby teammates apply Havoc Bane. Her guide's 118% Energy Regen target supports regular Liberation use, but it does not replace the need to build Concerto Energy for Outro.
Energy Regen target
Use at least the 118% Energy Regen target listed in her build data. Liberation immediately maximizes Havoc Bane on targets it hits and restores one Azure Plume, so missing it delays both her damage condition and her next full-Plume Heavy Attack.
Troubleshooting
The full-plume Heavy Attack is unavailable
Likely cause: Yangyang has fewer than two Azure Plumes, or the current stance requires a different input state.
Check: Confirm that Azure Plume is full. Intro, Liberation, and either Sword Stance Flow skill each restore one point.
Fix: Use Intro or Liberation when ready, or empty Melody and cast Sword Stance Flow to gain the missing plume. In Feather Sword Stance, use the ground Heavy Attack outside Havoc in Bloom or use Feather Fall while airborne.
Yangyang's damage drops even though her combo is landing
Likely cause: Havoc Bane fell below the stacks needed for Unbroken Vow's maximum 36% amplification.
Check: Check the target's Havoc Bane stacks before the main Heavy Attack. Six stacks give the maximum value stated by Unbroken Vow.
Fix: Use Liberation to set the target to maximum stacks or let Havoc Bane teammates apply stacks before Yangyang's damage window.
The next Havoc teammate does not receive Yangyang's 20% Havoc amplification
Likely cause: The incoming character did not inflict Havoc Bane during Tonal Switch's 20-second duration.
Check: Confirm that Yangyang left through Outro and that the incoming character actually applies Havoc Bane.
Fix: Outro directly into the Havoc Bane teammate, then use that character's Bane-applying action before Tonal Switch expires.

How to Play
Yangyang: Xuanling's damage is gated behind Havoc Bane stacks on the enemy. Unbroken Vow scales her damage from 10% per stack up to 12% per stack once a target passes three stacks, capping at 36% amplification at six. Keeping a target Bane-stacked is the actual skill in playing her, not just landing her own combo. Her forte, The Way of Ten Thousand Voices, runs on switching into Azure Sword Stance and spending a resource called Melody, and her Resonance Liberation, One Life, One Blade, force-maxes Havoc Bane on whatever it hits. That's usually the opener into her real damage window, not the payoff itself. Her Outro, As the Wind Wills, hits for 300% of her ATK and gives the next character 20 seconds of Tonal Switch, a 20% Havoc DMG boost the moment they inflict Havoc Bane. Switching off her right after that Outro into another Havoc unit is where the buff actually goes.
Player Guidance
The 118% Energy Regen floor listed above isn't a soft suggestion. Her forte and Outro both depend on having Concerto Energy ready when the stance-switch window opens.
Azure Oath is her signature, but Emerald Sentence and Emerald of Genesis, both on the Build tab, cover her Crit Rate and ATK needs without that exact weapon. Havoc Eclipse only helps Havoc damage, a flat 10% Havoc DMG Bonus at 2 pieces, so it's worth building specifically for her rather than reusing a set from another element.
She wants a teammate who can also inflict Havoc Bane so Unbroken Vow's stacks fill faster than her own hits alone manage. Chisa, in either trio on the Teams tab, does that.
